A while ago I wrote about my hopes for RFK Jr.’s presidential campaign. While this campaign has come to an early end, there is still hope for his prospect to drastically improve America.

The reason his effort to be part of the next administration is still worth paying attention to, is that he is currently the only politician who vocalizes what the world most urgently needs: a true understanding of what is required to improve public health and a true environmentalism.

This clip from his interview with Tucker Carlson this week, in which Kennedy Jr. is close to tears, is worth 12 minutes of your time. In brief:

“When we destroy nature we diminish our capacity to sense the divine”

This is the true reason we should protect the environment, not to lower the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. In the act of obsessing over CO2 we are diminishing the value and mystery of nature and we are forgetting why it is really worth protecting.

And so once again, Kennedy Jr. is right:

“If you wanna have Americans fight each other, talk about Carbon. If you want to unite Americans, talk about habitat protection”.

Instead of coming up with insane ideas for how we are going to reduce and sequester CO2, we should all go into the wild and remind ourselves why our environment is worth saving in the first place.
