On the absurdity of being conservative or liberal

I was listening to this debate between Ben Shapiro and Destiny representing conservatism and liberalism, respectively and it struck me that being conservative or being liberal can only ever make sense directionally. As a conservative I can reasonably want the world to preserve the past more than on its current trajectory and as a liberal I can advocate for more progress and inclusivity.

However, it seems impossible for any human to reasonably claim that they would like no progress or no stability. Denying progress or denying stability is denying the very nature of life, which is, at its best, a constant dance on the razor’s edge between the two.

We should recognize this in any debate with “the other side”. If we find ourselves only being able to represent and understand one side, we’re likely denying ourselves a little life or at the very least, we’re not being reasonable.
