Everything is for you

A table does not look like a table. It doesn’t have a smooth surface and it’s not brown.

What it really is, for all we know, is just an arbitrary accumulation of atoms, about as related to one another as the atoms in your body are to the atoms in the water you shower in every morning. And even that is just a concept.

When we see the brown table with the smooth surface, it’s our mind creating an image without us being conscious of the process, whatsoever.

Our mind is doing this for functional reason, for the purpose of our survival. It has learned to convert a signal that we are not conscious of to something that serves us.

“This accumulation of atoms resembles something smooth, so I must be able to place objects on it.”

It is worth recognizing that everything we see and hear and perceive is “for us”. We’re only perceiving it, because it has some potential value for us. Our mind is constantly doing the incredible job of filtering out everything else.

And god only knows what everything else is.
