Cause for optimism
If you are worried about what another Trump presidency will mean for the world, I don’t blame you. The rhetoric, style and even many of his political ideas are far from benign.
But over these last few weeks since the election, one can not help but sense a certain spirit of optimism, even inspiration when observing what is actually happening. Somehow, I have The Who’s Baba O’Riley playing in the back of my mind.
The cause for optimism is rooted in three individuals nominated by Trump to play key roles in his administration:
- Elon Musk & Vivek Ramaswamy: The American people rightly and most explicitly voted for a radical change of guard in the US administrative body. Whether you like Musk’s and Ramaswamy’s personalities or not, there are probably few people more qualified to perform an exorcism on the corruption and inefficiency that is hamstringing the US government, as they asserted in this week’s WSJ Op-Ed.
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: I’ve written about RFK Jr. a few times in the past (notably here and here): Once again, I believe he is probably the only person capable and daring enough to dismantle a system of incentives that has made the US the sickest developed nation on earth.
If these three individuals can achieve a third of what they are setting out to achieve, America will be better for it.
Let’s allow ourselves to be cautiously hopeful!
