A true free market

--

In a recent podcast interview, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a simple statement that is worth contemplating:

“In a true free market you cannot get rich without making others rich.”

He reminds us of a simple and yet forgotten paradigm: Markets serve the primary function of facilitating an optimal exchange of goods and services and therefore they should benefit all participants.

A market in which this is not the case, is likely one in which the government plays a major role and has been captured by an oligopoly of players. This usually leads to major distortions in the marketplace with sub-optimal outcomes for participants.

RFK Jr.’s quote then can be a useful yardstick for the quality of the economy we are finding ourselves participating in and help point to obvious shortcomings.
